Community Pharmacy Prescription Network got its start in Illinois when a major manufacturer negotiated a cost-plus network with Wal-Mart and Walgreens to provide prescription services to their employees and retirees. The owners of CPRxN run family pharmacies that were adversely affected due to the loss of these prescriptions and worked with the manufacturer in selling the value of community pharmacy in order to be able to compete for that business in 2012. Community Pharmacy Prescription Network submitted a bid, and was selected to participate in the preferred network for the next contract round for this major manufacturer which began in January of 2012.
Since then our independent pharmacy network grew to a 350 members to serve a financial services employer located in five states, and we are getting new member pharmacies almost daily. As we pursue more direct to employer, cost plus contracts, we want to make sure that independent pharmacy has the opportunity to be represented in those preferred networks.
We know from experience what independent pharmacy does to the economic health well-being of the communities they serve. The result is we help payors save money on their drug spend, keep prescriptions at the local independent community pharmacies, and insure that preferred networks offer a high quality choice for pharmacy based services.
Our goal has been to allow independent pharmacy to compete on a level playing field with chain entities in these preferred networks and let the quality of our service speak for itself.
